After we posted our story about Walmart’s donation to the Haiti earthquake appeal, we received a comment from Ruth German about how important it was for individuals to get behind fundraising as well as organisations.
“It’s great to see that Walmart has contributed to the Haiti earthquake appeal,” she wrote, “but wouldn’t it be good to allow our customers and colleagues the opportunity to contribute via in-store collection buckets. In this situation every penny really does count – so come on Asda, let’s show how much we care.”
Well, no sooner had she posted her comment than we received a picture of a store doing just that. Rachel Mansfield from Weston-super-Mare got in touch to tell us what colleagues there had been up to.
“From Saturday to Monday alone we have been able to raise in excess of £1,000 for the Haiti Earthquake Appeal,” she says. “Collection buckets will still be on all checkouts this week, so if anybody would like to make a donation, please pop into the Asda store on Phillips Road. The kind generosity of all of our customers and colleagues has really blown us away, I cannot thank people enough with all the donations that they have given.”
Meanwhile, we’ve also heard from Ann Binks at Asda Coatbridge with a similar message of encouragement:
“I would like to thank all colleagues and customers for their donations for Haiti. We have collected £939.33 over Saturday and Sunday and will continue to collect all week. Once again a great big thank-you.”
