Is your store taking part in our Big Read storytelling promotion?

Our Big Read promotion has been taking place this week in stores up and down the country and we’d love to hear how it’s been going.

Research conducted by our Books team suggests that the classic stories that some of you may have grown up on are slowly but surely falling out of favour and being replaced with more modern fiction such as Harry Potter and Twilight, or with books by celebrity authors.

Our Big Read puts some of the classic books firmly back in the spotlight.

We’re offering kids’ and adults’ classics at great prices during the promotion and we’re also running storytelling sessions in the stores listed below to help give busy kids and parents a reminder of what they might be missing.

Our Big Read offers include hundreds of cut-price classic novels with many priced at just £3 or less. Titles include Stig of the Dump, Wind in the Willows, The Borrowers and the Railway Children as well as adult classic novels such as One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Dracula.

If you’re in one of the stores running a story-telling session, drop us a line here at the Green Room and tell us how it went.

Scott Homer from Cambridge says:
For the Big Read we held a special Storytelling session in the Cambridge store during our Tommy's Family Fun Day on 30th January 2010. The favourite book proved to be The Gruffalo whilst children enjoyed free Juice and parents got to put their feet up with a free cup of tea or coffee.

Jade McNeill from Livingstone says:
As part of the baby and toddler event/big read we got a storyteller into our store. As there was terrible rain and the primary school would have had to walk to our store I took the event to them. We visited Howden St Andrews Primary school in Livingston and did a reading session with primary 1's and primary 2's. They loved the books that were read and I gave them each a goody bag which they all made such a noise about you would think it was christmas!!
