Lucky Asda lottery winner plans to return to the checkouts

Lottery winner Sue Stebbings

An Asda colleague who won more than £5.6 million on last week’s double rollover has vowed to keep shopping at Asda – and plans to return to her job on the checkouts.

Sue Stebbings, 43, has worked at Asda Lowestoft since the store opened five years ago and loves her job. She checked her numbers on Teletext last Thursday morning before work… and then headed straight in to Asda to do her early morning shift.

Her manager, Mel Rooke, says: “She was my early morning runner on Thursday and she knew no one else would be in at 7am – she didn’t want to let anyone down. It was my day off and she texted me to say she’d won the lottery. I rang her straight away and said, “You can’t text me something like that!”

“Everyone’s delighted for her. It couldn’t have happened to a lovelier lady. She has said she wants to take a career break and come back to work in a year’s time. I’ll definitely have her back – she’s a good colleague.”

Sue, who won £5,629,964 in total, has already been back to Asda to do her shopping since winning the lottery. She bought food for her mother-in-law’s 80th birthday party and a £6.30 shirt and tie for her husband from George.

Sue told the media: “I will continue to do my shopping at Asda. I can still use my 10% colleague discount card and I will. Old habits die hard. We used it to get 70p discount on Richard’s shirt.”

Sue is also hoping to pay off the mortgage, buy a boat for her husband and treat her two children Vicky, 20, and Charlie, 17.
