Asda House

40 varieties of cake, two trolley wielding bananas and a target to raise £400 …. On Monday 14th May, the entire Asda Legal function made a fantastic effort to put on a charity bake sale in order to raise money for the Leeds Community Foundation. The whole of Asda House was engaged as two happy bananas (Sonia Collins and Charlotte Wright) spent the afternoon offering a cake trolley service to all departments. The grand total raised was £513.35, by far exceeding our initial target of £400.00. This fundraising event was in anticipation of the Leeds Clarence Dock Dragon Boat Race, to be held on Saturday 30th June 9.45am-3.00pm, whereby the Legal function is entering a 17 strong team. We will be competing against 36 other businesses in and around Leeds to raise money for the Leeds Community Foundation – and of course try our best to win! If you are doing a run or bike event in the summer, or just want to get fit fast, you may be interested in an intensive training programme with Asda’s James Hirst of Hirst Personal Training.

There are only ten places and these will be given on a first come-first serve basis.

The eight week programme starts on 17th May and will run on Monday and Thursday mornings at 6am in the Tomato Room (contact James for other possible group times).

This Boot Camp style training programme will deliver the following results:

• lose body fat %/Weight
• feel fitter
• reduce blood pressure
• improve your resting heart rate
• reduce dress/trouser size
• de-stress and much much more
  
  

The training will include:

• Resistance Training – to strengthen muscles as well as joints – also aiding recovery (so you’re not unable to walk for a week after your event).
• C.V Training – in order to prepare the heart and lungs for the gruelling but rewarding task of completing any endurance event
• Flexibility Training – in order to keep supple and speed up recovery
  
  

The training is promised to be delivered in different ways in order to keep the workouts enjoyable and will cater for those who are very fit to those who haven’t exercised for years.

The cost is £80 (£5 per session) – this can be paid in 2x £40 blocks. The sessions will run in the Tomato Room at 6am on both days (some days will be outside) for eight weeks starting on 17th May.

This year we held a big Easter fundraising event in store to raise money for F.I.T-Fields In Trust.
The Easter bunny visited store and gave out mini eggs all day and had his photo taken with children in store for a small donation.
We also had 'Guess the name of the bunny?' and 'Guess how many bunny marshmallows in the jar?.'
Our community Life Champion made Easter nests to sell and we made easter cards with the children in store.
Colleagues donated a £1 to wear something summery and brightly coloured to celebrate!
There was balloons given away with sweet parcels and overall we had a blast!
We all had a great day and raised £230.50 for Fields in trust.
