Cast your vote in Tommy's Let's Get Baby Friendly Awards for 2012

We’re delighted to have been nominated for two awards in the Let’s Get Baby Friendly Awards run by pregnancy and baby charity Tommy’s.

The awards acknowledge organisations that go out of their way to provide a better experience for babies and mums. We’ve been nominated as Best Family Supermarket and our George at Asda range of baby clothes has been shortlisted in the Best Baby Clothes category.

We’ve also helped to sponsor the Tommy’s and Asda Courage Award – which celebrates a couple or individual who has had a difficult road to parenthood but has made it through with outstanding courage.

Voting for the awards is open until February 20th and everyone who votes is in with a chance to win a Keycamp family holiday.

You can nominate someone for an individual award and cast your vote on the Tommy’s website.

Thanks to all our colleagues for helping us raise £1.5 million for BBC Children in Need

A huge thank you to all our colleagues here at Asda for helping us raise an incredible £1.5 million for the BBC Children in Need campaign last November.

Our contribution helped the appeal raise a record-breaking £46 million – all of which will help fund hundreds of projects across the UK and make a real difference in the lives of disadvantaged children and young people.

Colleagues from across the UK got involved in our “Show your Spots let’s bake lots” campaign with each store, office and depot holding fundraising events which spanned everything from bake sales to in-store cyclothons.

Many of our community colleagues went out into their local community and got school children in the area involved in baking cakes and biscuits to raise money for the appeal – you can see their stories, photos and videos from their fundraising efforts here.

The total was announced last night at a reception at 10 Downing Street attended by celebrities and children from some of the projects that BBC Children in Need helps support.

David Ramsden, Chief Executive of BBC Children in Need says: “The incredible amount raised is only due to the energy and imagination of our supporters. From cake sales to concerts, the country came together like never before.”

“Everyone should be proud that they are helping us to change lots of young lives right here in the UK.”

Join Alexandra Burke and friends in London for a Girls' Night Out in aid of Tickled Pink

We’re hosting a fantastic fundraising concert in the new year featuring Alexandra Burke, ambassador for Breast Cancer Care, and friends – all in aid of Tickled Pink.

Nicknamed “Girls’ Night Out”, the concert is held at Shepherd’s Bush Empire in West London on 12th January and follows our theme for this year’s Tickled Pink campaign – “Girls’ Night In”. The popstar and former X-Factor winner has hand-picked the line-up which features Chipmunk, Dionne Bromfield and special guests The Saturdays.

Alexandra Burke says: “It is going to be such a great evening of music and entertainment all in aid of a really important cause.

“I’ve been a Breast Cancer Care Ambassador for a number of years now and am delighted to work with Asda in supporting their campaign and helping them to continue the fantastic work that they do to support breast cancer charities.”

We’d love to see our colleagues there joining in the fun! If you’re an Asda customer or colleague you can get tickets for just £20 by using the promotional code Tick20. Tickets are on sale now from Ticketmaster, and all of the money from the ticket sales will go towards to our Tickled Pink breast cancer charities.

Support our Christmas Gift Appeal in store

As part of our Christmas Gift Appeal for 2011, we’re asking out colleagues and customers to help make a child’s Christmas by donating new unwrapped gifts in-store.

We’re collecting gifts big or small for disadvantaged children in your town – the gifts received will be collected and distributed by your local radio station working in conjunction with your local Social Services and charities.

We’re placing a Christmas gifts trolley in the foyer of each store, and from Monday 14th November, we want you to encourage customers to donate gifts to underprivileged children.

Last Christmas we collected 65,000 gifts and over £750,000 – and this year we want to help bring more joy to these children by asking each store to aim for a target of 200 gifts each. If we hit our target, this year we could collect over 100,000 gifts!

Tell us what you’re doing in store to support our Christmas Gift Appeal by uploading your stories, photos and videos to the Green Room.

Celebrate Movember in support of Everyman

It’s Movember time again – the month where you might start to notice something different about your male colleagues! Thousands of men are growing moustaches to raise money for men’s cancer charities and promote awareness of prostate cancer and other men’s health issues.

By growing a moustache – or “Mo” – for an entire month, men throughout the country are showing their support. Here at Asda we’re really getting into the spirit of Movember to raise money for Everyman.

Check out the gallery below for some fine examples of moustaches grown by colleagues from the Asda House trading floor. Find out more about Everyman.

We know there are hundreds more moustaches being grown throughout the business and we’d love to hear from colleagues who are getting involved.

If you’re taking part in Movember this month share your pictures on the Green Room or show your support by leaving a comment below.

Show your spots and tell us what you're doing to raise money for BBC Children in Need

We are proud to once again be BBC Children in Need’s fundraising partner – and this time we’re encouraging our colleagues and customers to get baking and raise money with our theme “Show your Spots, Let’s Bake Lots”.

Our community colleagues will be supporting local schools and helping them take part in our Great School Bake Off – and we’re selling more than 20 exclusive products in store to help raise money and awareness. We’ve got everything from a Lego Pudsey Bear to baking kits and exclusive George t-shirts and for every product purchased from the range we’ll make a donation to BBC Children in Need.

Tell us what you’re doing to support the campaign by sharing your stories, photos and videos on the Green Room and take part in our weekly factoid quiz by answering this simple question.
