Day three at the International Associates Conference
One word to describe yesterday – WOW! What a privilege it felt to be part of the audience for the International Associates Conference.
The IAC is a conference for all of the Walmart International colleagues from across the globe to come together and celebrate the amazing achievements of each country.
This day has to be recorded as our longest so far with an early rise at 4am and breakfast at 5am. Put it this way, we managed to clock up a staggering 3,096 hours awake in just one day between the Asda UK team!
As we approached the arena, the UK were first in line and, not to break the trend, the noisiest by far!
Once inside the area the atmosphere cannot be put into words. Seeing all the international colleagues represented in one room is a sight we will never forget.
After a brief and humbling introduction from Dave Cheesewright we had the pleasure of meeting Shelley Broader, the newly appointed CEO for Walmart EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa), sporting the Asda team Wednesday t-shirt!
First up in the country presentations to the rest of the Walmart International colleagues were the Asda UK team! With a quintessential James Bond theme featuring some of our Exec and colleagues, the message delivered to the colleagues was clear; that the four beliefs underpin everything we do at Asda and we can never underestimate the importance of keeping them at the heart of our business.
Kabir, our trolley porter from Asda Wembley, did a fantastic job of introducing the UK team onto stage and was personally recognised backstage by Dave Cheesewright.
We watched all the other countries present, which included Bollywood dancing from Walmart India, a football theme presentation from Brazil and huge Elephant puppets from our South African colleagues.
Next on the agenda was the opportunity to meet our Exec and have a Q&A session, which was followed by each group performing their chant to the Exec team, competing for the winners title…group 3 were crowned the winners of the ‘chant off’!
So you can see why we’d describe the day as ”wow”! Time to get some sleep ahead of another packed day tomorrow – stay tuned!
