ASDA Bideford hosted a P.E.E.P. (Pupil Employer Engagement Programme) event at the store on 24th October. The programme was set up by the North Devon Employment and Skills Board in response to a survey that concluded that children who had contact with employers on 4 or more occasions during their time at school were 5 times more likely to be in work, training or further education after they leave school. On the day the children from Bideford and Holsworthy were given: a store tour, a presentation and some tasks around problem solving, analysing figures and creative thinking.
P.O.P.S.I. (parents of Premature and Sick Infants)Chosen By You charity vote winners for July and August were presented a cheque for £204. P.O.P.S.I. raise money for Scbu ward and North Devon District Hospital purchasing equipment and day to day supplies. ASDA Bideford Supported the Careers Speed Dating event at Bideford College. The year 10 students were given a quick insight into the world of ASDA and the opportunities available.
ASDA Bideford supported the Junior Parkrun event in Victoria Park on 5th October. We gave out Apples Bananas & Satsumas to the 100+ children that took part. The Junior Parkrun takes place in the park every Sunday at 10:30 and is open to all children age 4-14 years.
ASDA Bideford held a Tickled Pink day in store raising over £500 for the Breast Cancer Charity. We had a Tombola Stall, a guess the name of the seal competition, Guess the number of sweets in a jar and a Bath of Pink Porridge!
ASDA Bideford deputy manager Don Murray has completed his solo bike ride from Land's End to John O'Groats in aid of Tickled Pink. Don set off from Land's End on 1st September, just Don his bike and a tent. 10 days and 1,566km (973 miles) later Don arrived at John O'Groats after a gruelling 88 Hours and 28 minutes of pedalling the length of Britain! Don has raised over £2,500 for Tickled Pink a fantastic amount!
Asda Bideford held a sponsored walk along Westward Ho! beach on Sunday 7th September in aid of Tickled Pink. The day was a great success and we had great weather too! We would like to thank all those who participated, the Sea Cadets for helping to marshal the event and the Beach Cafe for use of their premises.
