North Devon Precious Hearts won our Chosen By You token vote for November and December. The charity were formerly known as North Devon Heart Babies but changed their name to reflect that not all the children they support are babies. Kay (left) a founding member of North Devon Precious Hearts was delighted with the cheque for £205.40 the money will either go towards a buying a defibrillator or go towards a trip for the families they support.
ASDA Bideford hosted a P.E.E.P. (Pupil Employer Engagement Programme) event at the store on 24th October. The programme was set up by the North Devon Employment and Skills Board in response to a survey that concluded that children who had contact with employers on four or more occasions during their time at school were five times more likely to be in work, training or further education after they leave school. On the day the children from Great Torrington School were given: a store tour, a presentation and some tasks around problem solving, analysing figures and creative thinking.
Asda Bideford supported the young parents group run by Wings and Bideford Bay Children's Centre by supplying the ingredients and assisting with making a healthy Chicken and Vegetable Soup. In the photo are 2 of the mums with Peter and Camille from Bideford Bay Children's Centre
Community Life Champion Peter Wilcox supported the Bideford College Careers and Community fair. Our stall showcased what Career opportunities ASDA has to offer school leavers and also offered a healthy snack!
Community Champion Peter Wilcox cooked up 3 Sweet & Sour Stir-fries for Pynes Infant School year 1 Pupils. The children have been learning about the Chinese new year and the school asked if ASDA could help. To combine the activity with healthy eating I offered to cook them a healthy stir fry with Turkey, Wholegrain Rice, Onion, Carrot, Red Pepper, Green Pepper, Pineapple and Sweet & Sour Sauce. The children really enjoyed it!
ASDA Bideford welcomed a group of year 8 students from Bideford College into the store for an Enterprise Day. The purpose of the day was to give the kids an insight into the world of work, retail and ASDA, looking at: Recruitment, Career options and career paths, Customer Service Culture and the way we operate. They were given a presentation, shown some training videos and met our youngest Section Manager Ellis. Later they had a behind the scenes tour of the store and a buffet lunch. The students were then split the into 3 teams and undertook some tasks around Selling, Problem Solving, Creative Thinking and Analysis. At the end of the day the winning team were each given a £5 gift voucher.
ASDA Bideford supported the wear it, beat it, campaign day on 6th Feb in aid of the British Heart Foundation. in the photo are front row Cathy, Amanda, Sue, Sue & Michelle. Back row Eleanor & Peter with his son George who had open heart surgery at 6 months old.
Community Life Champion Peter Wilcox has been supporting the Job Centre in Bideford, by conducting mock interviews for job seekers who wish to improve their interview skills, offering an interview followed by a feedback session with some tips and advice to prepare them for their next real interview.
