We held a Strawberry Tea event at Chubb Churchill, a local sheltered housing residents group run by Westward Housing. The residents tucked into sandwiches, cakes, strawberries and cream washed down with tea, coffee, summer fruits or lemon squash. We raised a total of £52.57 for Breast Cancer Care.
Supported East the Water School's year one African topic by cooking up a healthy African inspired Sweet Potato and Chickpea Curry. Ingredients were: 2 onions, 1 Garlic, 100 g of Root Ginger, 3 tins of Chickpeas 2 Tins of Chopped Tomatoes, 1.5 Kg of Sweet Potatoes and a sprinkling of ground Cumin. There was enough curry for all 70 of the year one children to have a small bowl full, and only cost £4.41 from the schools toolkit budget! The children came to me in groups of ten and I spoke to them about the importance of eating fruit and vegetables as part of a healthy diet.
Attended the opening of a new children's play area at High View at the request of Westward Housing co-ordinators of the project. I took along a presentation folder and talked to parents about the work we do in the local community.
Bideford Blind Club were the first winners or our newly upgraded Green Token Charity vote the vote now lasts for three months and the winners receive £500! The runners up were Bideford Street Pastors and the Bideford & District Sea Cadets who each received £200.
As part of our Asda Active campaign we supported St. Mary's School KS1 sports day giving refreshments to all the 180 children taking part. The children had a piece of fruit either an apple, banana or orange and a bottle of water. We gave all the children an Asda Active sticker and the school were given medals and stickers to hand out to the children.
Supported Families in Grief's 10th anniversary party for all the families they have supported over the years. I helped supervise the bouncy castle, ensuring the children played safely. I took along my community folder to talk to people about the work we do in our local community.
Help for Heroes came in to Bideford for the weekend as part of a national collection at Asda stores across the country, raising money for this important charity.
