Mum in a Million Competition Asda Basingstoke has success

Laurie with her beautiful basket of toiletries

I entered one of our colleagues Laurie for the recent Mum in a million competition that was on wire. Laurie is like a mum to us all at Basingstoke and has time to be there and supporrt us all. The last 3 years have been hard for Laurie as she lost her Dad shortly followed by her son in law. Within the last few months her husband has sadly developed Cancer, Despite all this she remains cheerful and positive. I felt that it would be lovely if Laurie could win a prize and give her a surprise which she thoroughly deserves. She was runner up in the competition. Here she is with her prize.

Healthy Eating at The Bridge Community Primary School

I went to our local primary school and we had a taste testing session with Year 2. As they are participating in our Gro-Sure challenge, I decided to take along salads for the children to try. Most of the children tried the salads, especially the beetroot as it made their tongues purple.

Asda visits Swan Valley Secondary School

I went to my local secondary school to discuss with Year 10 BTEC Business Studies and to talk about how Asda works in the community and to give them information about their local store and how the business runs, number of customers, basket spends, amount spent on carrier bags and how to plan to reduce the number of free plastic bags given out etc. I also worked with them on our Recruitment process and gave them one of our team building games we do on our Magic Process. They enjoyed the team building aspect.

On Friday 4th May Asda Bedminster's G.S.M Steve Fletcher and Community Life Colleague Brenda Wright visited our local Windmill Hill city farm's community group, where we had tea and doughnuts (we provided the doughnuts) with the local elderly ladies coffee afternoon. We spent 2 hours chatting and having a great laugh with them, nearly all the ladies are or have been customers over the past, we had a great time with them, and they were very sweet and made us welcome.

Asda Highbridge Raises Money for Local Childrens Ward

Pictured above is Ellie, daughter to our Aces Manager Ann-Marie. Ellie spent 12 months undergoing operations at the childrens ward in Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. Anne-Marie wanted to say thankyou to everyone that helped care for Ellie by raising money. We decided to run a children's pocket money easter egg hunt over the easter weekend and raised £144.77 for the childrens ward! The children had great fun running round the store finding easter eggs! We took the cheque down to the ward where I was shown round and how donations are used, while Ellie had fun in the play room with the play specialist who helped her during her time in hospital!
